UPDATE: Two suspects arrested in connection to Lynchburg shooting

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Two men matching the suspects' descriptions have been arrested in connection to a shooting in Lynchburg.

Police arrested Rogernal Ferguson, 25, just after 9 p.m. on Thursday in the 2200 block of Aragon Street. He had outstanding warrants for strangulation and domestic assault and battery. There are no other warrants for Ferguson right now.

18-year-old Dontae Spinner was arrested around 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Eleventh Street. He is charged with attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and reckless handling of a firearm.

Police are not looking for any other suspects.

Lynchburg police are investigating a shooting that happened Thursday morning.

Officers have cleared the area of 12th Street and Clay Street. Lockdowns are no longer needed.

No one was hurt.

There is a large police presence in downtown Lynchburg as police investigate a shots fired report.

There are no reports of injuries at this time.

The investigation is taking place in the 1000 block of Clay Street. The area is cordoned off as police search for a suspect or suspects.

Officers were in the area and heard several shots being fired. They pursued the suspects, but lost sight of them.

A spokesperson with the Lynchburg Police Department said there could be one or two suspects.

The City of Lynchburg sent out an alert about the situation, saying there is a man in the area who is "possibly armed and dangerous." The alert described the man as wearing a white shirt and blue basketball shorts, last seen in the area of 12th Street and Clay Street, running toward Clay Street.

Two Lynchburg City Schools -- Dunbar Middle School and the Empowerment Academy -- were placed on lockdown. Parents do not need to respond to the schools.
