ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Two jewels of the southwest Virginia area are getting national recognition.
The Huffington Post recently named the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke and Maier Museum of Art in Lynchburg among the "55 best lesser-known art museums in the Northeast."
There were only three on the list from Virginia, and two were from our area.
The museums are always striving to stay current by featuring local artists, hosting events like Tasting at the Taubman, and even weekly classes for children and adults.
"The staff and board of directors and the community are very excited in terms of the recognition for one of the region's cultural gems. Just that excitement of putting Roanoke and the Taubman Museum of Art on the map both locally and regionally," said Cindy Petersen of the Taubman.
The museum has free admission but now boasts a new ticketed exhibit called Play, Toys Reimagined as Art.
