UPDATE: 11-year-old charged after 8-year-old girl shot in Roanoke County

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) --

UPDATE:

An 11-year-old boy has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm after an 8-year-old girl was shot in Roanoke County.

It happened in mid-December, along Bradshaw Road.

According to search warrants obtained by WDBJ7, multiple guns were found in a truck parked outside the home.

The warrants also reveal the girl who was shot had last been seen unhurt near the truck, and she was later found shot in the head.

According to an initial warrant a male at the scene said he found her in the backseat of the pickup truck in the driveway, slouched over. Before EMS arrived she was brought inside the home.

Authorities confirm the 11-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl are not related, but do know each other.

Due to the age of both, no further information is being released.

UPDATE:

The seven-year old girl is still being treated in the hospital.

Police continue to interviews witnesses. No charges or arrests have been made at this time.

A seven-year-old girl is recovering from an apparent accidental shooting that happened Thursday afternoon.

Roanoke County Police responded to a medical emergency in the 7200 block of Bradshaw Road at 3:30 p.m. Once there they were able to determine that the girl has been accidentally shot.

She was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Police are not currently looking for potential suspects and there is no danger to the community.
