ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY (WDBJ7) It may have been the Virginia Horse Center, but the talk was all cattle today.
It was the Valley Beef Conference, where they offer meetings, demonstrations, and quality certifications. This year’s was particularly useful for subjects related to winter, like how to prepare for calving season and keeping the youngsters healthy through the cold.
“If we hear different things, different issues farmers want us to address, we try to put together educational information, resources, pull in speakers -- folks from the university -- to help us address what faremrs are seeing and how to help them," says Animal Science Extension Agent John Benner.
The subjects can change from year to year, depending on what the extension agents hear from farmers.
