BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) A Bedford plant shut down Thursday and 40 employees lost their jobs, according to Bedford Town Manager Charles Kolakowski.
Kolakowski says the Valley Processing plant was bought out by an international company and that the company is going to consolidate production at another facility. There are no plans of reopening the plant in Bedford.
Kolakowski said the state, county and town are working to provide the employees assistance. On May 2, the state's Rapid Response team will be at the Bedford Public Library from 4 to 6 p.m. to give workers who lost their jobs information about employment opportunities. The Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce is also having a job fair at the Bedford CVCC campus.
Valley Processing was a custom mixed rubber compound supplier.
