Vinton fire causes $5000 in damages, kills cat and dog

VINTON, Va. (WDBJ7) A mother and daughter are safe after a fire broke out in the 1600 block of Mountain View Road in Vinton on Wednesday.

Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded to the fire around 5:30 a.m. after an alarm monitoring company sent out an alert.

When crews arrived, there was smoke showing from the eaves and the back of the house.

One dog was rescued, however one cat and another dog died in the fire.

The mother and daughter will be displaced and the Red Cross is assisting them.

The fire was mostly confined to the basement, however there is smoke damage throughout the home.

The fire marshal's office has ruled the fire to be accidental, however the cause is undetermined.

The fire caused about $5000 in damage.

Crews from Vinton, Mount Pleasant and Hollins also responded to the fire.
