Virginia State Police investigate after fatal crash in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Virginia State Police is investigating a two vehicle crash that ended in a fatality.

The crash occurred Tuesday at 3:25 p.m. on Route 220, just south of Route 693 in Franklin County.

According to police a 2001 Saturn L200 was driving south on Route 220 when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, crossed the median and struck a 2005 F-150 puck-up truck.

Police have identified the driver of the Saturn as Janice Lynette Haley, 28, of Gretna.

Police say Haley was wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

Police have also identified the driver of the Ford as Keith Shelton McConnell, 47, of Glade Hill.

Police say McConnell was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to the hospital for injuries received in the crash,

Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the incident.

The crash is still under investigation.
