BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) A hand written letter of support can go a long way. Students at Virginia Tech spent their day writing words of encouragement to a heartbroken Parkland, Florida community.

Student's used their breaks between classes to write and design cards for family, friends, and students at Marjory Stoneman High School.

"I actually met a couple of students who went to the high school and they came by and they were really thankful of what we're doing and to see the support in the students here come together and write letters, no words for it, it's incredible," said Annalicia DaSilva, a Virginia Tech student.

Student organizations got the idea after a book was found in the university's archives from the high school offering support to Virginia Tech after the shootings in 2007.

"It's just a way for us to show our support for them that we know what they're going through and that what they did for us meant so much to us that we wanted to do the same thing back to them so they feel loved and supported through this tragic time," said Samantha Bond, Virginia Tech student.
