Liberty University hires former Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Liberty University announced Monday that Ian McCaw has been named the school’s new athletic director.

McCaw previously was the athletic director at Baylor University, before resigning amid a sexual assault scandal at the school in May. He had been Baylor's athletic director since 2003.

McCaw takes over for Jeff Barber, who resigned Nov. 17.

McCaw spent 13 years at Baylor, and the school won four national championships and 56 Big 12 championships on his watch.

He resigned in May after being sanctioned and placed on probation when the university's athletic teams became embroiled in a sexual assault scandal that led to the dismissal of football coach Art Briles and others.

In Liberty's announcement, President Jerry Falwell said, "Ian's success really speaks for itself. You look at what Baylor was able to do during his tenure, it fits perfectly with where we see our sports programs going."
