Washington and Lee students help schoolkids with science

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) Some Rockbridge County students are taking advantage of a special program at Washington and Lee University.

It's a student club called WITS, or Women In Technology and Science. W&L students meet with groups of girls from county elementary and middle schools, and present them with projects in various areas of science.

"Younger kids don't really get that exposure, and I didn't feel like I had that exposure when I was in middle school or an elementary school girl," says Shannon Belforti, the President of WITS. "So I would have loved to have been involved in something like WITS. So I think that's something that we're giving to the community in a way, just really getting to know the girls and teaching them about things that we love."

The program is entirely organized and run by W&L students.
