WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- Waynesboro Police are warning pet owners and parents to keep a watch after investigators say someone tried to kill cats with anti-freeze.
Waynesboro Police call this crime "despicable" and "cruel" after what they believe is an attempt to kill animals.
Police said they received reports on Tuesday of somebody placing anti-freeze outside their home as an attempt to kill cats. It happened along the 1000 block of Fourth Street in Waynesboro, according to police.
Sgt. Brian Edwards said a crime like this is not common and his agency is taking it seriously.
"It can also kill a small child because it is anti-freeze and it has a very unusual color and odor to it," Edwards said. "It could attract a small child so there are those concerns. That's why we're treating it very seriously."
Edwards said Waynesboro Animal Control continues to investigate.
