SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) A series of community conversations on faith and the LGBT community continues this weekend in Roanoke.
Heart to Heart: Conversations on Loving Our LGBTQ Neighbors and Strengthening Our Faith began with a panel discussion on November 8th, and it continues with a full slate of activities Saturday and Sunday.
Susan Cottrell is the Founder of FreedHearts, a national organization that advocates for parents of faith and their LGBT children. She is the keynote speaker for the Heart to Heart Conference Saturday.
Whether or not pastors or congregations approve of gay, lesbian or bisexual sexuality, Cottrell says, is beside the point.
"What is the point is to welcome these people," Cottrell told WDBJ7, "and restore their humanity and embrace them the way our faith traditions tell us to embrace people."
The Heart to Heart Conference is Saturday from 9 to 2 at Christ Episcopal Church in Roanoke. For the full schedule of activities, click on the conference link associated with this story.
