Weekend mega adoption event in Roanoke is mega success

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) - Local animal rescue agencies say working together this weekend for a mega adoption event was mega successful.

All weekend long, Angels of Assisi, local humane societies and SPCA agencies teamed up outside of the Franklin Road PetSmart.

Angels of Assisi alone adopted out more than 120 dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs.

Volunteer coordinator Jessica Worrell said even unsuspecting shoppers sometimes walk away with a new member of the family.

"A nice couple was walking through and they fell in love with her [a dog] and they asked what AT meant," Worrell said, referring to the dog's name. "And and I told them I was like, 'well its for Appalachian trail, she was found there.' And they actually had their first date on the Appalachian trail. And they actually left and adopted her today so they left and that was really cool."

Worrell said the bad weather on Saturday didn't affect them. They were able to adopt about out six puppies in four hours.
