Winter weather causing accidents and delays in the area

Winter weather has caused many accidents and delays Tuesday morning.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says snow showers that passed through southwest Virginia overnight have created slick spots on the roadways, so drivers should be cautious during their morning commute.

VDOT says drivers may come across slick spots, especially on secondary routes, bridges, and overpasses.

VDOT reports the counties affected by this winter weather are portions of Carroll, Pulaski, Craig, and Giles.

Drivers may run into delays on US-220 near Grassy Hill Road in Franklin County this morning because of a disabled tractor trailer. As of 6:00 a.m., the south right lane and right shoulder are closed.

Drivers may see delays on Interstate 81 at mile marker 99.4 in Pulaski County because of an accident. As of 6:02 a.m., the south left shoulder is closed.
