Man charged after woman dies in Amherst County crash

AMHERST CO., Va. (WDBJ7) -- A man has been charged after a woman was hit and killed in a vehicle crash in Amherst County Tuesday.

According to Virginia State Police, Linda B. Perry, 63, Madison Heights was driving eastbound in her 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck on Route 130 in Amherst County when she made a left turn onto Dixie Airport Road at around 11:05 a.m. Tuesday.

As Perry was making the turn, Russell G.M. Lynch, 37, of Appomattox, who was driving westbound in his 1995 GMC Safari van failed to stop for a red light, continued into the intersection and hit Perry in her pickup truck.

The pickup truck spun around and turned on its roof as a result from the crash, Virginia State Police said.

The driver of the pickup truck, Perry, was flown to UVA Hospital where she later died. Police say she was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the van, Lynch, was not hurt in the accident. Police say Lynch was wearing a seat belt.

According to State police, Lynch has been charged with reckless driving.
