Woman driving medical transport vehicle dies in Bedford County crash

BEDFORD Co., Va. (WDBJ7) According to Virginia State Police, a driver of a medical transport vehicle, 32-year-old Lanessa Marie Brown of Charlottesville, has died in a car crash in Bedford County Thursday.

State police say the crash happened on Route 723 in Bedford County at 6:22 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, Brown was driving a 2011 Dodge Caravan, serving as a medical transport vehicle, east on Route 723 when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road hitting several trees. State police say Brown died at the scene.

Police say there was a 66-year-old female passenger inside the car at the time of the crash. She was injured and taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to State Trooper N. Houck, the medical transport vehicle involved in the crash was affiliated with AngelCare LLC Handicap Service, which is based in Charlottesville.

According to Virginia State Police, Brown was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
