BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Christiansburg went into Friday night trying to avoid a winless campaign with an upset over its rival Blacksburg.
But things started badly when Nic Cook got picked off on the second play of the game. Josh VanGilder got the interception and the Bruins had great field position on the 15 yard line. Two plays later, Cole Beck went around the left side and Blacksburg went up 7-0 just 2 minutes into the game.
Next up, an onside kick catches the Blue Demons off guard and Blacksburg gets back in business and the Bruins don't waste any time. Grant Johnston found Tiquest Terry open from 16 yards out. Bruins are up 14-0 just like that and the Blue Demons were in trouble.
After a 3-and-out by Christiansburg, Beck heads right up the middle and doesn't stop until he finds the endzone. That's three straight scores for the Bruins.
On Blacksburg's next possesion, Johnston drops back and spots his big tight end Thomas Coffey for the 32-yard touchdown completion making it 28-0 Blacksburg in the first quarter.
The Bruins win big, 70-7.
