BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) It was a battle of defending state champs, with Salem looking to ruin the welcome party to the 4A classification, while Blacksburg looked to prove they belonged.

And right out of the gate, Coleton Beck with plenty of daylight on his face, finds plenty of daylight out in front of him. The 78-yard run putting the Bruins on top, 7-nothing.

The Spartans then looking for the response, but one again it's Beck making his presence felt, this time on the defensive side of the ball, as he comes down with the interception.

Salem though would find the end zone before the end of the first quarter. Luke Owen skates in from 5 yards out. But a missed PAT would make it 7-6.

Blacksburg then would answer early in the second. Grant Johnston goes up and over the defender for the touchdown dive, making it 14-6.

The Spartans would tack on a field goal, but they would have a hard time slowing this guy down. Beck gets loose again, and he takes this one in from 56 yards. Blacksburg unafraid, as they go up 21-9.

Salem again would settle for a field goal, and with only 4 seconds to go in the half. The Bruins decide against a hail mary, swinging it out to Tiquest Terry. And Terry will do the rest. Blacksburg goes into the break up 28-12.

The Bruins would only bolster their lead in the second half, as they start to run out the clock, by letting Coleton Beck run. He breaks off another touchdown run, this one a 35-yarder.

Blacksburg didn't hold back. Johnston finds Camden Wise, the wide receiver who doubles as the place kicker for 38 yards and the score, as the Bruins knock off the Spartans for the first time in 13 years in a big way, 49-12.
