Fuente not concerned with preseason rankings

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Virginia Tech Hokies checked in at #21 in the first AP college football poll of the season released Monday, one spot ahead of their game one opponent, #22 West Virginia.

It's the first time the Hokies have appeared in the preseason poll since 2012, and while it's a nice feather in the cap, it doesn't mean a whole lot. Certainly not to Head Coach, Justin Fuente, who is more concerned with where his team finishes.

"It's a nice honor, I appreciate it," said Fuente. "I don't really want to de-value the people who vote for those things. I think those things are fine. We haven't addressed it one time with the team. We won't address it. The bottom line is: nobody's played a game. Nobody really knows how the season is going to go or what things are going to transpire, so we don't really put a lot of stock in it."
