NARROWS, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Galax is bidding for its 3rd straight trip to the state semis. But Mark Dixon and the Maroon Tide are well aware of what they're up against when they face the 11 and 1 Green Wave tomorrow.
Galax Head Coach Mark Dixon stated, "Heckuva football team, huge upfront, got skilled kids. I could see this coming for years, that he was building a program, done a heckuva a job so it's a huge task to be sure."
Dixon's 2017 Tide team has plenty of youngsters and they've had to grow up in a hurry, especially since losing leading rusher Dougie Peoples to a broken foot in week one of the playoffs.
"Definitely some other kids have had to step up and we're gonna miss Dougie and more than anything just miss his leadership on the field. He's obviously a phenomenal player but other kids will step up and they're excited for their opportunity and they've worked hard. So we'll give them an opportunity and see what they can do with it. This is the youngest football team I've ever had by far, a hard working team with great senior leadership, great character that has kind of drug us along with them, our seniors have been. I'm really proud of them and we've got a bunch of youg pups that are out there scrapping so it's a fun group to be around," stated Dixon.
