John Szefc Introduced As Virginia Tech Baseball Coach

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Hokies got a chance to meet their new head baseball coach on campus Thursday in Blacksburg.
John Szefc is the 25th head coach in program history. He gets a 7 year contract worth 400 thousand dollars in base pay his first year, andt that grows to 600 thousand bucks by 2023. There are also several performance bonuses in the deal.
The former Maryland head coach knows what lies ahead as he tries to rejuvenate a program that has made just two NCAA appearances in the last 15 years.
"It all starts with the players, it's the player personnel," said Szefc."You evaluate the players, you build relationships with the players then you obviously in August and September and kind of see where we're at. I don't make knee jerk decisions with anything. It's one thing I've learned over the years is to be patient. Let the process play out, follow your plan and be patient with it. Baseball is not a quick fix sport. It's more of a longer process sport. We'll set a plan and follow it every day and try to build it here in Blacksburg one brick at a time."
