Liberty Opens Preseason Camp In Lynchburg

The Liberty Flames worked out Tuesday morning for about two and a half hours in helmets and shorts. Stephen Calvert is back for his sophomore season at quarterback after winning the job midway through last season. But he's about the only sure thing on the depth chart where there will be plenty of competition and position battles throughout camp.
The Flames are in the midst of their transition to the FBS ranks and they'll jump right into things with an FBS opponent from the Big 12 in week one when they travel to Baylor.
Coach Turner Gill knows there's lots of work to be done over the next month, but he liked what he saw on day one.
"We look forward to getting better," said Gill. "We've got a long way to go but I feel good about this team as we move forward and we've got to keep working hard."
