LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Liberty football team is officially beginning their transition to an FBS program this season, and they will start off the year going head-to-head with a Power-5 FBS program, taking on Baylor out of the Big-12 this Saturday.
The Flames say they're heading out to Waco, Texas, with something to prove.
"Baylor, they're a great team, but like every other opponent that we've faced, we feel like we can beat them," said Flames Running Back, Frankie Hickson. "As long as we trust in each other, and we trust the process, and we have each other's back."
"Played at Tech last year, get to go to Baylor this year," said Fullback, Thomas Kennedy. "We get to play in big games, and show the world that it's not a joke that we got into the FBS, and make a statement the first game of the season."
"It's nice, because obviously, going to FBS it's something that we've got to measure ourselves up to," said Tight End, Zac Foutz. "Like, What are we really going for? We're playing a Big 12 team, and they're the real deal. So we don't go down there just to play. We're going down there to win, and I think a lot of guys on this team have that attitude, and I think measuring ourselves up to Baylor is going to be a good measuring stick for the years to come when we have to move up to the FBS."
