Liberty's Hickson making push for more carries

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Liberty Flames are now less than two weeks away from their season opener at Baylor and former Heritage standout Frankie Hickson is making a serious bid to be the starting tailback.

Hickson rushed for nearly 500 yards and four touchdowns last season and had kick returning duties as well. The redshirt sophomore has added about 15 pounds to his frame but hasn't lost any of his speed. And he's enjoyed the competition with the other running backs, Todd Macon and Carrington Moseley.

"We compete with each other a lot, but it's all in good fun," said Hickson. "We try to make each other better and we try to be a real brotherhood for what it actually means. We love each other and that's all that matters. This competition is to make us better."

"(Hickson is a) very tough young man, very good quickness, good speed," said Liberty Head Coach, Turner Gill. "He's worked hard, a hard worker and dedicated guy. He wants to do the best and is always wanting more and more, and wanting to learn. When you have that kind of intangibles, plus he has the skill but he has the other intangibles that you look for and I love what he's about."
