MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Things are about to heat up at Martinsville Speedway this weekend.
This is a home race for the Wood Brothers and basically one for the driver of the No. 21 car, Ryan Blaney, who grew up in High Point, North Carolina.
Blaney finished 19th in both Martinsville races a season ago, but he thinks his ever-growing experience could earn him a much better finish this year at the Paperclip.
"There's things, in the offseason, myself and my team sat down. I've struggled on the short track, and we sat down and picked out racetracks where I feel like we've struggled the most. Martinsville, Richmond, and Phoenix, and I feel like we've gotten a little bit better at those places, whether it's better understanding what the car needs, or me driving it different. So hopefully, those changes that we made in the offseason will pay off," Blaney said.
"It's a hard race to do well in. You have to put together 500 laps, and stay out of all the calamity that happens, and not try to create none of your own. Ryan's got two races under his belt here plus some trucks races, so I think he's underestimating his track time here. I think he'll be just fine," Eddie Wood of Wood Brothers Racing said.
