ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) At Northside, the Vikings played their first home game of the season tonight, following three straight on the road, and what a way to open at Jim Hickam Field, as Salem paid a visit.
Northside fans were jacked for the home opener but the Spartan faithful made their way up Peter's Creek Road as well.
On the first Salem drive, Jack Gladden moves to his left and pitches to Avery Close on the run and he completes the play in the endzone and the Spartans were on top early.
A couple possessions later, the Spartans on the move again but the Vikings make a play. Gladden has his pass picked off in the endzone, as Tyrel McEnhelmer comes up with the interception to end the threat.
The defenses duked it out the rest of the half.
And in the third quarter, the Vikes were on the doorstep when Jalen Jackson sends a pass to the endzone where the Spartans return the favor. Luke Owen is there for the pick and he takes it the other way to put Salem in business again.
Salem found the endzone again as Gladden hands to Tae Hale and he bulls in from a yard out and Salem went on to win it 27-nothing over Northside.
