ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) -- The best in slow pitch crowned today at the 17th annual International Senior softball World Cup. The tournament wrapping up Sunday in the Roanoke Valley.
Over 100 teams from around the country competing for shiny rings, and you won't find one player under 50. Team USA the champions in the Men's 50 Major Plus division, scoring 58 runs over the course of the weekend.
Bill Bakner was voted this years' MVP for the tournament.
"Guys who are over 50 can't play the game anymore. That is the worst kind of misconception you can have. These guys have heart. They put effort, and it's team effort all the way. When you come out here and you enjoy the game first of all, and have a great bunch of guys like team USA, you want to come out here. You live for this. You can't wait until the next tournament, even at the senior level, it's all about team effort. It's all about teamwork. It's what makes the game enjoyable again," Bakner said.
