LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) Al Cobb threw for three touchdowns as VMI beat East Tennessee State 37-7 on Saturday.
Cobb had 212 yards passing for the Keydets (3-2, 1-1 Southern Conference). Tyain Smith ran for 97 yards and a score and Alex Keys had 80 yards rushing and another touchdown.
Cobb threw a 54-yard scoring pass to Javeon Lara in the first quarter and a 45-yarder to Aaron Sanders in the second to help VMI to a 27-0 lead at halftime.
Dillon Christopher kicked a 51-yard field goal midway through the third quarter to make it to 30-0. ETSU's Nick Sexton — who replaced starter Austin Herink in the fourth quarter — prevented a shutout with a touchdown pass with 36 seconds to play.
The Keydets amassed 458 total yards while holding ETSU to just 262 yards.
Herink had 109 yards passing for the Buccaneers (2-3, 1-3) and was intercepted once.
