It's a cliché, but it's true: Breaking up is hard to do. And it's something that most bands will go through sooner or later. Sometimes it comes with a cataclysmic explosion and other times it's a slow burn. Luckily, the broken groups always leave behind what matters the most -- the music.

The White Stripes
Why they broke up: So far, the Whites have been a bit
cryptic about why they split, saying only the dissolution was for
"a myriad of reasons ... mostly to preserve what is beautiful and
special about the band." These quasi-siblings could teach the Gallaghers
a thing or two about brotherly love.
