A hero's thank you Friday afternoon for one of the original Tuskegee Airmen.
One of the country's most prestigious civil rights groups founded by Dr.Martin Luther King Jr., recognized Lt. Dempsey Morgan. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference presented him with the Drum Major for Justice Award.
Since WDBJ7's story aired in early February, Morgan's social calendar has been quite busy.
"It has been completely full and sometimes he wasn't even aware of the stuff he was doing, but it's been very rewarding for him," says Adrienne Morgan, his wife.
Morgan belonged to the country's most elite all black airmen group. As a fighter pilot, he flew 181 combat missions in World Word II. Now in his 90's, he suffers from dementia. He currently lives at the Veterans Care Center.
