AAA: Number of Thanksgiving travelers to increase for fourth straight year

For the fourth straight year more people are expected to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to AAA.

AAA predicts 43.6 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles from home for the holiday. That is up 0.7 percent from last year.

Ninety percent of travelers (39.1 million) will drive. That number is up 0.6 percent from last year.

The average distance traveled has dropped from 706 miles to 588 miles.

Air travelers are expected to drop from 3.2 million in 2011 to 3.14 million this year.

AAA estimates that the national average for a gallon of gas will be $3.32. The busiest travel day over the Thanksgiving week is the day before.
