The Campbell County Sheriff says Wednesday morning's deadly shooting was the result of a domestic assault and break-in. Investigators say there's evidence Alfred Dews, Jr. cut the phone lines and pried the front door open at a home on Mohawk Road near Long Island. The sheriff's office says Dews' girlfriend then shot and killed him. Deputies are not releasing her name.
Sheriff's department investigators say the case appears to be a justifiable shooting. They have not yet presented their evidence to the Commonwealth's Attorney, who will decide if any charges will be filed.

The father of a man shot and killed Wednesday morning in Campbell County talked to News-7. Alfred Dews, Sr. said his son's girlfriend fired the fatal shots. The elder Dews said he did not know of any trouble between his son and his son's girlfriend.

A Campbell County man is dead and investigators say the shooting that killed him appears to be a case of self defense.
The shooting happened around 4:45 Wednesday morning on Mohawk Road, near Long Island in Campbell County. The sheriff's office says Alfred Dews Jr. was shot and died at the scene. Dews was 35 years old and from Gladys.
Investigators say this appears to be a case of self defense. They are not releasing the shooter's name. A sheriff's department captain said she believes the shooter called 9-1-1. Investigators will present more information to the Commonwealth's Attorney Wednesday afternoon.
