Police say a Cadillac and a Jeep collided around 10:00 Friday morning at Route 460 and Southgate Drive in Blacksburg.
Investigators say the driver of the Cadillac, 34-year-old Robert Chester from Christiansburg, ran a red light.
He was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Jeep, 32-year-old Lisa Cotting of Christiansburg, was treated and released from Montgomery Regional Hospital.
The accident backed up traffic on 460 for several hours.
Police say Chester was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports the crash on U. S. Route 460 at Southgate Drive is clear.
UPDATED: 1:25 p.m.
Police say both drivers involved in a crash in Blacksburg Friday morning were injured.
The driver of a white Cadillac was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with what police described as serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital. Police said that person's injuries were not life threatening.
One lane of Route 460 remains closed in each direction at the intersection with Southgate Drive.

A crash involving at least two cars is slowing traffic on U. S. Route 460 in Blacksburg. The crash was reported around 11:30 at the intersection of 460 and Southgate Drive.
Emergency crews say at least one person was injured. At 1:00 p.m., one lane of Route 460 was closed in each direction.
