A man was seriously hurt when he was hit by a train Monday morning in Radford.

Twenty-year-old Andrew Willetts was hit around 8:40 a.m. at the Harrison Avenue crossing.  He was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries to his legs, according to a news release.  He's in serious condition. 

Investigators believe Willetts may have been trying to crawl through the train when it started to move.

A 20-year-old man was struck by a train and seriously injured earlier this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:40a.m. at the railroad crossing on Harrison Street in Radford.   

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found Andrew Willetts of Fairfax, VA with serious injuries to his lower extremities.  He was transported to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center then immediately flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The investigation continues but it appears he may have been attempting to crawl through the train when the train began to move.

His condition is unknown at this time. 

Railroad investigators with Norfolk & Southern also responded to the scene.  No additional information is expected to be released at this time.
