Fieldale man found dead in Philpott Lake

A Fieldale man was found dead in Philpott Lake Tuesday night.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of Herbert Daniel Norman around 7:30 p.m. Norman was 64 years old.

Investigators say it appears he drowned, but an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office is investigating the apparent drowning death of Herbert Daniel Norman, age 64, of Fieldale Virginia. Mr. Norman's body was recovered from Philpott Lake at approximately 7:30 PM on September 1, 2009, by the Henry County Sheriff's Office Dive Team. The Army Corp of Engineers Park Ranger Service and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are assisting in the investigation. Bassett Rescue Squad and Monroe Light added the dive team in locating Mr. Norman's body. Mr. Norman's body will be sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke to determine the exact cause of death.
