Arrest made in Henry County murder; Suspect turns himself in

A Bassett man turned himself in to police this morning in connection with the murder Monday at a trailer park on Goard Drive.  Brandon Ranzell Manns, 38, surrendered without incident at 8:00 a.m. according to the Henry County Sheriff's Department. 

Manns in charged with second degree murder, use of firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. 

Authorities say Rasheen Alonzo Penn was shot while sitting in his car Monday night outside a Bassett mobile home park. 

The sheriff's department's investigation continues.

Homicide Suspect Arrested

Brandon Ranzell Manns, age 38, of 2557 Willie Craig Road, Bassett, Virginia, turned himself in to authorities, with out incident, today at 8:00 AM. He was arrested on the following charges:

  • Second Degree Murder (felony)
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony/Murder (felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (felony)
  • Shoot Into an Occupied Motor Vehicle (felony)

He is currently held in the Henry County Jail with no bond.

Manns was being sought by police in the murder of Rasheen Alonzo Penn, age 30, of 207 Janice Drive, Bassett, Virginia. Mr. Penn was shot in the head while seated in his vehicle, a 1997 burgundy Ford Expedition that was located in a mobile home park on Goard Drive, Bassett, Virginia, on Monday, October 5, 2009, at approximately 11:03 p.m.

          The investigation is continuing.

          The Crime stoppers Program offers reward money up to the amount of $1,000 for information related to crimes. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information provided determine the amount of reward paid for information.
