The 36th edition of the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival brought thousands to the campus of Ferrum College.

There they found plenty of old favorites, including traditional quilts, a Draft Horse Pulling Competiton at the Blue Ridge Farm Museum, Coon Dog Races across Adams Lake, and dancers moving to the sound of an old-time string band.

One of the most unusual participants may have been "Amazing Grace," a mule from Front Royal who painted for the crowd.

The artistic animal is also set to appear in "Get Low," a movie starring Robert Duval, Sissy Spacek and Bill Murray that's due out next year.
