Two Albemarle County firefighters are safe after crews rescued them from the James River in Rockbridge County.  The man and woman were stuck on a rock in the Balcony Falls area of Glasgow.

The canoe they were riding in became wedged in some rocks.  As they tried to remove it, the canoe began to fill up with water.  The two climbed onto a rock and called for help from a cell phone.

State Police, Rockbridge County, Buena Vista and Glasgow crews helped with rescue.  They were called around 6 p.m., and the two were safe by 8:30.  Besides being cold, the man and woman were not hurt.
