School officials broke ground Thursday morning on a new Culinary Arts Building.
The finished facility will be known as Seven Hills Hall. It will host a new program at CVCC that will train students for jobs in food service.
Dr. Darrel Staat, President of CVCC, says students who complete a culinary arts degree will be able to pursue jobs at places like restaurants and residential nursing facilities. They will also be able to transfer to more advanced culinary programs at schools like Johnson & Wales University.
Staat says there is high demand for the new culinary degree. He believes a program to train dietitians could also be on the horizon at CVCC.
Seven Hills Hall is a 2.4 million dollar project. The 4,000 square foot building will feature the latest kitchen and classroom equipment. It's set to open in August 2010.
