Work to restore a Bedford landmark is "rounding" a new chapter.

We first told you about efforts to fix up the Big Otter Mill on Route 122 in Bedford County back in 2007.  The centerpiece of the building has now been removed.

Volunteers are dismantling the antique wheel so it can be sent to North Carolina.  A company called Waterwheel Factory plans to re-create the cylinder.

They've worked on similar projects for historic mills across the country.  Restoration organizers say they're happy to see the Big Otter Mill getting brought back to life.

"It's a great landmark here and I'm glad to see the work they're putting in it and the time they've put in it," said John Wright, mill restoration volunteer.

Once the wheel is back in place, volunteers hope to re-open the old saw mill as a tourist attraction and teaching tool for local students.
