Blacksburg Transit kicks off new bus routes in Christiansburg

Blacksburg Transit is making it easy to get around Christiansburg without a vehicle by extending the busing service there.

A kick off celebration Monday morning showcased the six buses that are now running in Christiansburg.

Riders have three different routes to choose from:

• The Shopper Express - Serves the commercial areas near the mall
• The Explorer - Runs through Christiansburg's downtown area and nearby neighborhoods
• The Go Anywhere Route - This requires advance reservations

Nancy Smith is social director of a nearby community that includes lots of seniors.

"We go out once a month to eat, and they'll come if you schedule ahead of time.  They'll come and pick us up and take us to our destination.  They'll bring us shopping at the mall.  We won't have to worry about trying to get out in the traffic," said Nancy Smith, Christiansburg resident.

All of the new routes will be fare free until the first of the year.
