ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Carilion Clinic will sell two outpatient centers to resolve a complaint that its acquisition of the facilities was eroding competition in the medical field.
The Federal Trade Commission approved a settlement with Carilion on Tuesday. The settlement was reached in October and was approved following a public comment period.
Carilion had offered to sell the Center for Advanced Imaging and the Center for Surgical Excellence after the FTC challenged the purchases last year.
The complaint said the purchases created a near-monopoly and could have led to increased costs for some procedures.
