A routine traffic stop led police to a bomb Thursday morning in Blacksburg.  The man they ticketed told officers there were people in an apartment making bombs, but they now believe he was the actual bombmaker.

Officers pulled over 21-year-old Janaka Nuwan Kumara Siriwardena late Wednesday night for running a stop sign. Siriwardena pointed them to an Orchard Street apartment, saying residents there were making bombs. Police got a search warrant and raided the home around 4:30 Thursday morning. They found an explosive device and a substance that appeared to be cocaine.

A State Police Bomb Squad successfully disabled the device, but after investigating, police believe Siriwardena planted the drugs and bomb in the apartment. He's being held at the Montgomery County jail charged with burglary, manufacturing an explosive device, possession of cocaine and making a false police report.
