Centra has selected a new location for an expanded internal medicine practice in Lynchburg.
Leaders of the regional health care system have signed a contract to purchase 7.9 acres off Nationwide Drive. A Centra spokesperson says the site offers easy accessibility from the Lynchburg Expressway and is located near other medical practices.
Centra will use the property to construct a new building for Lynchburg Internal Medicine. The current facility on Thomson Drive is small and has no room for expansion.
A site on Boonsboro Road was originally selected for the doctor's office, but residents in that area opposed the idea. They feared a new medical practice would cause congestion in the neighborhood.
Construction at the Nationwide Drive location will begin this spring.
