ROANOKE COUNTY, Va.—
You go to the gym to get in shape and relieve stress. But when it comes to gym etiquette, could you be the one everyone's complaining about?
It's easy to see the written rules posted in the gym, but don't forget about the "unspoken rules".
Whether it's cleaning off equipment, slamming down the weights or wearing perfume or cologne, Golds Gym Instructor Stephanie McGarry says, it's important to respect other gym members. "You're in a rush and it’s easy to just forget but try to remember to treat things the way you'd treat your own home. Cleaning equipment is very important because the last thing you want to do is spread germs," explained McGarry.
Gym etiquette should also be practiced inside the classrooms not just on the floor.
Talking to friends during the class, talking or texting on cell phones can be distracting.
Instructors say a common rule that's often broken is someone hogging gym equipment between repetitions and not putting weights back where you found them.
