SAN DIEGO -- A karate instructor accused of carrying on a sexual relationship with one of his teenage students pleaded guilty Wednesday to 29 felony charges, including committing lewd acts on a child. Eric Dylan Protas, who had been free on $800,000, was ordered into custody without bail by El Cajon Judge Peter Deddeh. The 38- year old La Mesa man faces a maximum of 48 years in state prison when sentenced on April 28. In October, a 14-year-old boy testified at a preliminary hearing that he had sex with his karate instructor as many as 300 times. The boy was a student at Allied Gardens School of Martial Arts when the alleged abuse took place.
