Although Canadian Joannie Rochette's mother Therese died only three days before, the Olympian decided to stay in competition and delivered a clean and skillful short program. As the cameras zoomed in on her final, triumphant pose, she broke down emotionally, giving the world a glimpse into her personal pain ... but also her strength and determination to honor her mother.
