This holiday season, the Roanoke Valley SPCA is hoping that the homeless pets at the shelter will feel the warmth and love of the season in a home for the holidays.

The Roanoke Valley SPCA is participating for the third year in the national "Foster A Lonely Pet For The Holidays" pet fostering program, sponsored by Petfinder.com.

Across the country, over the 13,000 pet rescue organizations are trying to empty their kennels for Christmas, encouraging members of the public to invite a homeless pet home for the holidays.

The "Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays" is a perfect opportunity for first-time fosters to join the list of the hundreds of other families who regularly save animals lives by providing temporary care to homeless pets.

Adult pets are often overlooked in shelters and are the last to be adopted.

Being able to place them in a home, even temporarily, gives them a much-needed respite from the shelters environment and allows staff and volunteers the chance to learn more about the pets' behaviors, likes and dislikes, making the finding a suitable permanent home much easier.

If you're interested in welcoming home a pet anytime between December 18th-21st to be returned to the RVSPCA between December 29th-January 2nd, contact Angie Troup at (540) 339-9505 or atroup@rvspca.org.

Interested families should sign up for the program by December 19th.

The RVSPCA will provide all needed supplies and support to the temporary families.

You can view all pet online at www.rvspca.org or visit the shelter to meet the pets.

The goal is to have all homeless pets into a home by noon on Friday, December 21st, to be returned on or after December 29th.
