Bucky Covington says his philosophy is "just try to live every day and have the most fun you possibly can, without your boss or whoever (needing) to know about it." Courtesy photo
Standing on the front porch of his Tennessee home, talking on the phone, Bucky Covington was enjoying a beautiful spring morning on Tuesday.
He was then informed he would be surrounded by mountains of snow later in the week.
“I’ll try to grab some of this sunshine and bring it with me,” he said.
Covington will bring his sunny personality to the Dakota Events Center tonight for a show that begins at 8. Admission is $10 to see the man who finished eighth on the fifth season of “American Idol.”
Actually, the audience will get two Covingtons for the price of one. Bucky’s identical twin brother, Rocky, will play drums tonight.
Bucky said his brother is accident-prone.
“If it can happen, it will happen to Rocky,” he said. “I mean, anything.”
His brother went riding the other day on a four-wheeler, hit a tree and hyperextended his leg.
All the fun activities they normally do outdoors they have to do inside on Xbox.
“Because if you do it in real life, he gets hurt.”
Bucky Covington loves to get outdoors on mechanized vehicles. That’s one of the reasons he bought a 90-acre farm outside of Nashville.
“I do a lot of dirt bike riding, four-wheeler, jeeps, side-by-side, campfires, drinking — not so much in that order,” he said.
Rocky was apparently not hurt too badly.
“My brother’s actually coming over here in a little bit. We’re going to get on the dirt bikes and probably do some jeep riding. We just had a bunch of rain, so we’ll probably go sliding through some trees,” Bucky said.
Rocky bought a 15-acre farm right next to his brother.
“So we live next-door. That’s always been a lifelong dream. So to all the fans, thank you very much for allowing that to happen.”
After “American Idol,” Covington made a successful transition into country music. His self-titled album debuted at No. 1 in 2007.
“We then put out three consecutive top 10 hits. That’s just an amazing feeling, when radio starts playing your songs and the fans are going out and buying the album. That’s just the best feeling in the world.”
His first three singles were “A Different World,” “It’s Good to Be Us” and “I’ll Walk.”
Covington, 33, said he loves “American Idol” and everything it did for him.
