12:06 PM EDT, May 21, 2010
Jean Jadhon is Co-Anchor of WDBJ7 at Six, Anchor of WDBJ7 at 5, and a reporter.
Jean began at WDBJ7 as anchor of News 7 at Eleven. One year later, she helped inaugurate News 7 at Five. In 2005 Jean took over the duties as co-anchor of the staion's flagship 6 p.m. newscast.
Jean spends mornings reporting stories in the field and afternoons working on News 7 at Five and News 7 at Six.
Jean is a native of central New York State and started her career as a reporter in Binghamton, New York, before heading to Syracuse, New York, as a reporter for the ABC affiliate there. Jean's work then brought her to the Gulf Coast of Florida where she anchored the weekday 10 o'clock news in the Fort Myers-Naples market.
One of the most challenging days in Jean's career was April 16, 2007, when a gunman opened fire on the Virginia Tech Campus. Jean and her co-anchor Keith Humphry broadcast live on the air for ten hours with no commercial breaks.
"We were learning about the events as we were broadcasting. It was an emotional day (many of us have personal connections to Virginia Tech) and a very sad day, but also a professionally rewarding time. We are trained to get information out as accurately and quickly as possible. This was a day we put everything we've learned to use. We really hope our coverage helped in some way as we all dealt with this unfolding tragedy as a community."
News 7's live coverage with Jean and Keith was broadcast via CNN nationwide and on CNN International as well.
Jean is a graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, and earned her Masters Degree in May, 2007 from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. She has also taught Television Newswriting at Hollins.
Jean enjoys spending time with family and friends, shopping, going to the gym, swimming and cheering on the Syracuse Orangemen.
